Dear friends of Dorking Safe Streets,

Thank you for your support of our efforts to make our roads safer for all. We are making progress on our efforts!

After four years, nearly 1,000 signatures on our petition, a feasibility study, and significant support from the Dorking community, Surrey County Council is proposing the installation of a Zebra Crossing with traffic calming measures to improve pedestrian priority and accessibility while crossing Chalkpit Lane.

Please share your views on their proposed plans by 10 January 2025:

Here are our thoughts on the consultation should you wish to consider them:

What we like about the plan:

* A crossing is very important here for the safety of all users.

* Widening the footpath is excellent.

* The high friction road surface will help drivers become aware of, and reduce, their speed approaching the new crossing down hill.

* The zig zag road markings will make the crossing visible and raise awareness to motorists of the vulnerable pedestrians using the crossing.

Are there any issues with the proposed consultation?

* Will there be adequate lighting so motorists can see pedestrians waiting to cross? This is not clear from the plans.

We would be grateful if you would also share this consultation link with your networks, parent mail distribution, WhatsApp groups, and all other channels in the community to share their views.

Thank you for your continued support! 💚
