Moffat Community Council - Barnhill Lane BESS objection

Moffat Community Council - Barnhill Lane BESS objection
The Issue
We object to Conrad Energy’s proposed 500 MW Battery Energy Storage System.
This is an industrial‑scale proposal on flood‑plain farmland between Moffat and Beattock. It threatens the local environment, our economy, it's close to housing, motorway and train lines, creates pollution risks, and would sit dangerously close to high‑pressure ethylene and natural‑gas pipelines.
Covering 16 acres the industrial site would sit beside the important Moffat Hills Regional Scenic Area, damaging the Upper Annandale landscape, harming protected habitats including the River Annan, and undermining the area’s tourism appeal. It also increases fire and contamination risks for nearby communities.
The proposal conflicts directly with both the Local Development Plan and the Local Place Plan as approved by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
We urge all authorities to reject this unsuitable proposal and consider a less intrusive and more appropriate location.
