Someone today made me notice that in the petition’s note isn’t clear what happened.
I must say that the aggression left me strongly traumatized and is very hard for me to talk about.
I’m trapped in a nightmare which didn’t give me yet the possibility to recover from the shock and that’s because the people which was supposed to protect and assist me preferred to denial the gravity ò the events in order for them to escape from their responsibilities.
Ho Chi Minh City 07/10/2016
On the night of Wednesday 6th October, I stopped at the Guesthouse 96 with two friends for a drink. My two male friends, one French national and one Russian, each ordered a beer and myself a margarita cocktail. My friends finished their beers before I did, and were immediately pressured by the bartender, an older lady, to purchase more alcohol to drink if they were going to wait for me to finish mine. They politely declined and said we’d be going in a minute.
The bartender was not pleased by this and began to complain in a loud and threatening manner. She physically harassed my friends before trying to take my drink away half-finished. Since I had already paid for this cocktail, I reached for my glass back, pointed out that there was plenty of seating still available for any other customers, and explained that my friends were more than entitled to drink at their leisure as they were already paying customers.
My French friend excused himself to use the bathroom, after which the bartender quickly removed his chair from our table. When he returned, he was again engaged in a physical manner by the bartender, this time escalated to assault. She pushed him, and then threw the table and chairs directly at him. I would describe her behavior as completely unhinged and violent.
When I tried to step between them, I was assaulted by the bartender, who bit my face and chest, and was then assaulted by the bartender’s daughter, who bashed me on the back of my head with a glass beer bottle. The glass bottle shattered as would be expected, and I sustained numerous cuts and lacerations from this attack, the worst of which requiring three stitches, which were applied at a nearby hospital.
Moments after this, the bartender’s son entered the fray and punched me in the face, bruising my right cheek bone and blackening my eye. Compounding this was yet another assailant, this time the bartender’s husband, who pushed me to the ground and began to drag me away, leaving me unable to defend myself from the three other family members who were all attacking me simultaneously at this point.
I was beaten, bloodied, bruised, and half naked at this point, the husband having ripped my shirt off in the midst of his aggressions.
We were directed to the local police station by residents at the scene at the time, where we were greeted with indifference and latent hostility. As I stood there bleeding before them, it was suggested that the bartender and her family were the real victims in this situation, and were reluctant to even contact emergency medical assistance, or offer me so much as a bag of ice for my swelling injuries.
My friends and I then took a taxi to a nearby hospital, whereupon arriving I was told my injuries were beyond their capabilities and we instructed to proceed onward to a larger hospital in the area with better trauma facilities.
Before I could depart, my assailant arrived at the same hospital, complaining of high blood pressure. I was quite upset by this, and began shouting at my assailant. I was in a mild state of shock from being attacked, and amazed to find that even the medical staff was predisposed to consider my attacker the victim, and in an astonishing display of unprofessionalism and disrespect, one member of staff began to film our argument on his mobile device. I asked him to stop and delete what he had recorded, but he denied even making the recording in the first place, which was obviously a lie.
My legal representative will be making further enquiries regarding this video.
My assailant’s daughter arrived alongside police officer Phan Minh Chau, badge number 290-464, who showed no concern for how I was injured, my immediate medical needs, or my privacy, in what can only be described as a dereliction of duty.
At this point, in great pain, needing medical attention, and now fearing for safety, I requested that the Italian Consulate be contacted immediately. I was then video recorded again against my requests for privacy, this time by the daughter of the bartender; the same woman who broke a bottle over my head earlier. Officer Chau refused to intervene in any way, asserting there was no legal basis for my request to no be video recorded.
My legal representative will also be making enquiries regarding this statement, as well.
An hour later, I had been moved to the larger hospital, received a cranial scan and a chest x-ray, but still awaiting the removal off the glass shards lingering from the broken beer bottle, or for the completion of my examinations. Realizing this might not be forthcoming, once my main laceration was closed with three stitches I paid my bill and was discharged.
The above constitutes my truthful statement of the events as they happened. My two friends who were with me throughout the evening, from the time of the assault to my discharge from the hospital, can and will serve as witnesses who will corroborate events as described. Their statements will be provided by my legal representative in due course of the investigation.
