The Issue

Many students of colleges affiliated with the University of North Bengal (NBU), part of the FYUG 2024–25 batch, have been blindsided by a new promotion rule requiring them to clear all first and second semester papers before entering the fifth semester. This unexpected requirement has caused significant stress and uncertainty among students, as it was not clearly communicated beforehand.

Imagine investing two full years into your education, only to find out a rule you were unaware of could potentially block your progress. This is the reality for many students under NBU. Although we respect the University's role in crafting academic policies, it's crucial that all such regulations are transparent and communicated effectively to students.

The lack of notification and clarity about this requirement is troubling, and it raises questions about the effectiveness of the communication channels between the university administration and its students.

To find a viable solution, we propose the following actions:

1. **Immediate Review of the Policy**: Conduct an immediate review of the promotion rule. This review should assess its fairness, feasibility, and the communication strategy used for its announcement.

2. **Clear Communication Strategy**: Develop and implement a robust communication plan to ensure all students are fully informed of any changes in academic policy well in advance.

3. **Grace Period for Current Students**: Implement a grace period for students currently affected by this rule, allowing them to transition smoothly and without unnecessary hurdles.

Through these steps, we believe the University can uphold its high academic standards while fostering a supportive and transparent environment for its students.

We urge the University of North Bengal to understand the predicaments faced by its students and take immediate action to resolve this issue. Please join us in calling for this essential change by signing this petition.
