“Modernize Grant County Courts with E-Filing & Digital Records Access!”

The Issue

Why This Petition Matters

Grant County, NM, urgently needs modernized court and government filing systems. Many other counties in New Mexico have already adopted electronic filing (e-filing) and digital document submission, making legal and government services more accessible, efficient, and transparent.

However, Grant County is falling behind. Without electronic filing, residents—especially those who live out of state—face unnecessary delays, inefficiencies, and barriers when accessing public records or filing legal documents.

This outdated system negatively impacts:

  •  Property owners who live out of state and must file real estate or legal documents.
  • Business owners & attorneys who need faster document processing.
  • Residents with limited transportation or disabilities who struggle to visit government offices in person.

Our Requests

We, the undersigned, urge Grant County officials to:

1️⃣Implement electronic filing (e-filing) for civil, probate, and property-related court documents in the Sixth Judicial District Court.
2️⃣Enable digital submission of public records with the Grant County Clerks Office.

3️⃣Develop a secure online portal where individuals can file, retrieve, and manage documents remotely.

4️⃣ Obtain funding from state and federal agencies to support the transition.

5️⃣ Host a public hearing or community meeting to discuss and gather feedback on this initiative.

How This Will Benefit Grant County

✅Increase Accessibility - Out-of-state property owners and residents can access records easily.

✅Improve Efficiency -Court cases and government filings will be processed faster.

✅Reduce Costs & Paper Waste - Less paperwork means less administrative burden.

✅ Enhance Transparency -The public will have better access to legal and government records.

✅ Keep Grant County Up-to-Date - Align with other counties that have already modernized their systems.
