2nd of June 2018 DA LOSES MASSIVE SUPPORT IN THE RECENT WESTERN CAPE BY-ELECTIONS Dear supporters of this petition Thank you for your continued support. Our petition now stands at 1,852 supporters and growing each day. The arrogant behaviour of the DA towards Mayor Patricia De Lille will cost them dearly in the 2019 elections in the Western Cape. If the recent by-elections in the Western Cape is anything to go by, then the DA is facing a crisis in the Western Cape. They always knew that there would be a political price to pay, but their think tanks caused them to believe that the loss of votes in the Western Cape would be insignificant. Wrong. Think again. The recent by-elections in Ward 3 in Saldanha Bay (White City) registered the DA receiving 53% (70%), the ANC 39% (24%), and ICOSA 6% EFF 2% (2%), which means the DA lost 24% of its support in Saldanha Bay, and the De Lille saga is not yet over. The longer it continues, the more support the DA will lose in the Western Cape. Yet, the DA continues its vendetta against Mayor Patricia De Lille. Just recently, the DA Caucus in CoCT resolved to reduce the executive powers of Mayor De Lille, out of spite. Another mistake, to be challenged by De Lille in Court, and which she will win, once again. “The DA got a big shock in this safe ward which sits in the suburb of White City in the town of Saldanha Bay on the West Coast. The DA lost 24% of their 2016 percentage vote share in the ward. They lost a lot of ground to the ANC and also lost support to the Independent Civics Organization of South Africa (ICOSA), a local Western Cape party, which has very little presence in this part of the province. The DA won this ward by over 784 votes in 2016 and that majority was reduced to 181 last night. While turnout was down compared to that of 2016, this once safe ward is now a competitive ward for the DA. The ANC will be delighted by this big swing towards the party and will hope that this will lead to a reversal of their 2016 West Coast misfortunes in the local government elections. Turn-out was 40%.” In Ward 13 in Oudtshoorn (Bridgton St. Simons), DA lost 9% of its support, receiving 51% (60% in 2016).
