Charger is now potentially unsafe.

I'm writing this update partially as a safety issue warning, and partially to continue to publicly document the charger's ongoing problems and further degradation. 

This was a user's recent report on the Plugshare app. The unit now seems to be leaking water, potentially exposing users and passers by to dangerous high voltage electricity. 

I have notified the council and they have informed me that maintenance will be out to put up warning tape very soon with an eye to a longer term solution tomorrow. Hopefully this is enough to make the area safe. I'm not very experienced with high voltage safety, but fingers crossed the unit has safety mechanisms to prevent shocks from wet ground to pedestrians near the unit. I just don't know enough on this topic, so please be extra careful everyone who is even close by and perhaps let anyone who is going into town today know about it. As I understand it, the unit will still be 'usable' and thus dangerous until at least Monday when it can be switched off.

I have also tried to notify the private company that maintains the unit, so they can potentially remotely disable it before the council can get there, but of course they're not answering their phones on a Sunday and there is no way for me to leave a message. This seems to be the standard quality of service that this contractor provides, hence the need for this petition.

Thanks for your ongoing support with this everyone. I apologise to everyone who has signed and shared that I haven't yet had time to take this petition and its concerns directly to the council myself. I also need to give a special thanks to Michael Selge for all his prior correspondence with the council that he has shared with me, now I've taken this issue on. He has noted many issues with all (3?) of the Mitcham council chargers that are maintained by the same company, although I personally only have experience with the one in Blackwood.
