Samantha Katie James posted an apology post on her Instagram account yesterday. In her post, she stressed that she could have articulated better in her explanation and that she knows it’s unfair and “not in your shoes to understand this fully”.
Except that it wasn’t an apology. She tried to shift the blame to being misunderstood and is trying to find excuses for ignorant remarks.
We will continue to petition for the stripping of her title because she is still standing by the points she makes: why are we getting so angry about issues that doesn’t affect us?
Because no matter whose “soul choose their own path”, we should try to help out however we can and not just be bystander on the issue. We do not need to be in their shoes to empathize and understand what it means to be unheard and to fight against injustice.
To the Miss Universe Malaysia Organization, while we understand that it is difficult to address this unprecedented event and that she is no longer under your contract, her image and resume are still attached to your organization. There must be more than your organization can do than just “clearing the air”.
She can still be sought after by other organizations as long she has the title. There is a video circulating around assumed to be taken at the time of Miss Universe competition. She was drunk, yelling racist remarks in a condescending tone and throwing objects at people.
Yet in her Instagram stories, she remarked that violence never solves anything.
“This is why you are underground. Sorry baby. You’ll never gonna be up there. Malaysia is better than this fucking country. Way better. We are way more developed okay.
Fucking arguing with {unintelligible}.
You shut the fuck up. Bitch. You shut the fuck up. {Throws glasses} I don’t give a shit who you are!
I don’t care who you are! Do not fucking argue with me! Run, motherfucker, run! Run! Be scared!
You don’t be fucking rude to me!”
This is assumed to be taken in 2017, during the Miss Universe Pageant where she represented Malaysia. Although it is in the past and she was drunk in the video, this clearly still is her current mindset towards other races.
This is an error that needs to be corrected as an example for everyone that although everyone is entitled to speak out, their words come with certain consequences.
