The state Cabinet on 15 Feb 2017 approved 440 km of suburban rail network for Bengaluru.

Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Law Minister T B Jayachandra said the project is estimated cost Rs 10,949 crore. The plan is to have a suburban rail network between Bengaluru and Mandya, Bengaluru and Yeshwantpur, Yeshwantpur and Tumakuru, Yeshwantpur and Yelahanka, Yelahanka and Baiyappanahalli, Yelahanka and Chikkaballapur, Yelahanka and Doddaballapur, Bengaluru and Bangarpet and Kunigal and Soladevanahalli.
