NNP is a haven for the Eastern sub-species of the white-bearded gnu .

There are millions of the Western sub-species in the Mara-Serengeti, but less than 10,000 of 'our' gnus East of the Rift Valley.

Less than 10,000 individuals exist on the planet, of which up to 500 are flourishing in NNP.
