On Friday June 26, 2020, judge Di Luca gave his 4 hour verdict at the Oshawa Courthouse. Although the brothers (Michael and Christian) were accused of aggravated assault and obstruction of justice, they were not charged for such. Unfortunately, Michael Theriault (the Police officer) was found guilty of assault and acquitted of obstruction of justice. To make things worse, Christian Theriault (the police officer’s brother) was acquitted of both aggravated assault and obstruction of justice.
For the many that stood in solidarity for Dafonte, this was quite disappointing as it once again showed the lack of justice we receive for our issues. Despite this, we will not back down and will continue to fight for justice and against inequality. With the signatures received, we will turn them over to the Miller Family should they choose to appeal.
