Mandatory sensitivity training for SAPS & SANDF

The Issue

To date 12 deaths have been attributed to SAPS and SANDF brutality since the start of the lockdown, this lockdown brings to light an issue that has been plaguing our country for years, our policing and armed forces have little if none respect and empathy for their fellow human.

Petrus Miggles died in his family's arms near the beginning of April after being assaulted in police custody while being detained for trying to buy beer illegally.

Collins Khoza died just three hours later after being assaulted in his home by four members of the SANDF for drinking alcohol inside his yard with a friend

"There is a breathtaking level of police violence in South Africa, and only Kenya and Nigeria have seen more people killed." - Ferial Haffajee Daily Mavrick 2020

"It shows there is a lack of sensitivity in police training. I am not arguing for what some people might consider a “soft” approach by police - police need to be tough, especially in a crime-ridden country such as ours, but they also need an ability to apply discretion....There appears to be a problem in the public service where those who work in the government do not appear to understand that our democracy needs a sensitivity to our violent past and humane treatment of everyone in our country. We cannot afford to have a situation where anyone is mistreated based on class, gender, race, country of origin or economic circumstances" - Ryland Fisher IOL 2019

I ask you to please sign and share this petition as we ask our government to educate and regulate those put in charge of our safety as a country.
