Subject : Canada’s position on Stockholm Convention on organic pollutants, & any link with Glyphosate
Dr. Galatone,
I am a Canadian resident of Delta, BC, and have a scheduled meeting with a federal minister on the 1st of April 2016 regarding safety records on the popular weedkiller Glyphosate/RoundUp that are not publicly available for citizens.
In this regard, I have also been looking into the Stockholm Convention on organic pollutants, which Canada has signed, ratified and brought into force by 2004.
I write this to ask you if you might agree to have me call your office at a suitable time to ask your views on if and how this convention may apply to a Methylphosphonate commercially recognized as Glyphosate and is packaged, along with other chemicals into the popular herbicide brand “RoundUp” as well as some others, for use in Agriculture, and also on forests, prairies and lawns.
I am in particular checking if this convention obliges nations, Canada in particular, to ensure that the approval process includes full disclosure of safety test data and records to the public.
In order for me to understand this convention, its scope and obligations, and applicability if any with Glyphosate/RoundUp, I would greatly appreciate if you would agree to have me call you, at your suitable date and time, if possible by March 31st, for say 10 or 15 minutes.
Thanking you
Tony Mitra

Thanks go to Kenneth Young for drawing my attention to this convention.
Kenneth will join me on April 1st for the meeting with Minister Qualtrough, bring a copy of the Stockholm Convention, and read out relevant sections to the Minister in his time slot.
Wish us good luck.
