Demolition of part of our heritage will commence on Monday according to DOC press release!

This afternoon we have been advised, via a press release from the Department of Conservation, that demolition of the Aniwaniwa Visitor Centre will start on Monday.
We are deeply disappointed by the Departments decision and its continuation to distort the facts of the matter and ignore the other parties that have an interest in the building including the general public and other iwi.
The building is owned by the Crown and not Te Urewera, but the Department is only willing to consider the views of the Te Urewera Board, which was established as part of the Tuhoe settlement.
To be clear:-
- the building is NOT earthquake prone
- to fix the building up will not cost millions of dollars to repair.
- there are other parties interested in using the building
Please continue to share this petition with others and encourage as many people as possible to shout from the tree tops about the political vandalism which is about to take place.
