Mayor ignores request for a meeting to discuss petition

Mayor Campbell Barry was asked for a meeting to discuss the petition asking for protection of the East Harbour Regional Park. His executive assistant said his calendar was booked. When asked when a time might be available there was no response.
Unfortunately, it appears that this is not the only issue that the Mayor will not discuss face to face. The previous mayor would throw out invitations to meet face to face at every opportunity. If you are keen to see accountability in local government you may want to request your own meeting and discuss the issue with the Mayor. Eventually, he will agree to meet with someone.
I have not received any reply explaining how part of the East Harbour Regional Park was zoned residential. I have not found any official notification of the change. From a careful check of the District Plan maps, it appears that this was not the only area of land owned by Hutt City Council that has been altered.
