Hello— thank you for all your help so far
We met with Minister Green yesterday; she made no commitment at this point to create equitable access to PrEP in the NWT. You can read my tweet here. This is not over.
The Squeaky Wheel Gets the Grease
We will continue working on this— the squeaky wheel gets the grease and we're close to becoming 15k-signatures squeaky.
On the up side, Minister Green seemed very interested in looking into implementing more education and outreach for healthcare staff and educating the communities on the availability of PrEP and its benefits; but this does not solve the issue of the populations to whom the financial barriers are too high to access this HIV prevention medication.
To achieve a victory, we need your help:
1. Chip in $5 if you can;
2. Fill Minister Green's inbox— let her know that it is unacceptable to not deploy all the tools in the toolbox to fight against HIV transmission; follow this link : julie_green@gov.nt.ca
3. Express your concerns in the GNWT engagement survey here before October 14, and tell them we need free PrEP for all Northerners now : https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6HGMSTT
Feel free to let me know how you filled the survey at gagnon.will@gmail.com— we are currently drafting an official response to this survey to facilitate submission. Don't worry— I'll be emailing you again.
I am very very grateful for the support of Chelsea (Northern Mosaic Network), Sabrina (Northern Birthwork Collective) and Jody (CATIE). Couldn't have done this without you! Your knowledge and experience is our power here. Thank you! :)
Thank you so much for your time, signature and donations— it means a lot to us.
Warm regards from Yellowknife NT :)
