Dear Equal Civil Partnerships Community,

What a difference a year makes.

Twelve months ago, the Supreme Court ruled that the ongoing ban on different-sex civil partnerships was unlawful. Now, following the successful passage of the Civil Partnerships, Marriages and Deaths (Registration etc) Act 2019, different-sex civil partnerships are being pre-booked across the country.

Secondary legislation will be introduced to finalise the specific arrangements around civil partnership, due to be introduced by 31st December 2019. A consultation will shortly be announced, and we will be back in touch when it’s launched to encourage you to express your views.

At this point, as our updates are less frequent, we encourage you to get the latest updates from the Campaign for Equal Civil Partnerships by signing up to its mailing list https://forms.gle/YV7T6nVfP9SMq5Gs9
This will make sure you’re first to hear the latest news and developments in what promises be a big year for civil partnerships.

Thank you for helping to bring about this much-needed change: for emailing and sending postcards to your MPs, for visiting them in their constituency surgeries, and most of all for sharing your personal stories. All of it, every little bit, helped to show policymakers how much civil partnerships means to so many of you up and down the country.

We hope you enjoy making your own plans for a civil partnership. Since it’s a relative blank slate, we urge you to form it in whatever way is right for you.

Please feel free to share your plans on Twitter @EqualCPs or by emailing hello@equalcivilpartnerships.org.uk. Everyone at the campaign would love to hear about what you’re up to.

All our best,

Rebecca and Charles
