Dear supporter, We hope you have had a good summer. We are pleased to tell you that the High Court has set a date for our Judicial Review hearing: January 19 and 20, 2016. Please put it in your diaries! The hearing will be presided over by a senior judge, who will hear and review the opposing arguments before issuing their ruling. The hearing is open to the public – please come if you can as we would love to meet you in person and see some supportive faces. Plus, maybe, hopefully you’ll get to witness some history in the making (fingers crossed!). However, there are still approximately £14,000 of legal costs outstanding. We are committed to transparency and any surplus funds will be donated to Liberty in order to assist other equality and human rights cases. Alongside our legal effort, the campaign group is working with policymakers to increase political pressure to open civil partnerships to all. A Ten Minute Rule Bill has been tabled for October 21, 2015 to discuss Tim Loughton MP’s (Con) Private Member’s Bill (PMB), which would remove the stipulation that civil partnerships be limited to same-sex couples. The PMB is supported by MPs across the political spectrum. As we get closer to October 21, we’ll be asking you to please write to your MPs directly to ask them to support the PMB.
