Ava is seizure free! Thanks be to god. Bad cold and temperatures but no seizures. Today I had one more of the extraordinary remarks that I have discovered parents like ourselves that have children with extra needs experience. A woman asked me if I have managed to recover completely from the terrible loss I have experienced. Comparing Ava's illness to the death of a close family member she continued to suggest that Ava's Dravet Syndrome diagnosis was similar if not worse that losing a relative. As I gathered my thoughts to compose a calm response to this insensitive and bizarre conclusion I wondered how on earth any person could link my beautiful little girl to any degree of loss. Ava Barry is a blessing to us the same way her sisters and her brother are. She needs more help in aspects of her life but will never ever ever be considered less of a contribution to our family. Every child needs help to achieve there best and she is just the same. Her achievements are celebrated the same as everyone else in this house. Anyone who might have the idea that having a little child with a difficult diagnosis is an irreversible tragedy is mistaken. Our little girl is our angel and we are proud of her every day seizures or no seizures delays difficulties whatever she is achieving more and more every day. I'm so sorry to know that there are people out there that can't recognise the beauty in a splendid little girl like Ava I'm really sorry for them oddly enough the word loss comes to mind it is their loss not paul not Ava's not mine.
