Biodiversity impacts associated with Heathrow expansion.

Expansion would fragment a currently functioning ecological network, leading to irreversible deterioration of biodiversity and natural assets.
- Expansion would result in the loss of around 1,300 acres of Green Belt, alongside additional land take from displaced businesses and associated infrastructure.
- The proposed diversion, culverting, and tunnelling of five rivers would fundamentally alter natural systems that have evolved over millennia.
- This would disrupt links stretching from the Thames, through the Colne Valley Regional Park, and into the internationally rare chalk streams of the Chilterns National Landscape—undermining the ecological coherence of the wider area.
Such changes would be effectively irreversible, with degraded habitats unable to replicate the ecological and social value of the existing natural system.
We need your help to ensure more people are aware of these risks.
