Dear Dr. Habeck,

The signers and me, the Federal Chairperson of the Human and Animal Rights Party ETHIA, would like to support your candidacy as party leader of the “BÜNDNIS 90 / DIE GRÜNEN”, as we hope that you will return to the former values of your party.

As you say, the issue of animal welfare will be taken more seriously by you than by some of your colleagues.

But it should be judged not by promises, but by your actions. 

In your own federal state, Schleswig-Holstein, you have not yet worked on a terrifying field concerning animal protection – quite the contrary.

So far, you have been massively protective for the incomprehensible monopoly of the “Landesjägerschaft” in Schleswig-Holstein, the members of which can be trained in "short-time workshops" from "normal hunter" to "seal hunter" in a completely intransparent way.

The pseudo knowledge gives the hunter the power of decision over the life of the seal and the hunter is by law superior than the veterinarian's real competence developed through years of studying and approving.

THIS IS COMPLETELY INACCEPTABLE!

Since 1974, it is not officially allowed anymore to hunt seals.

So can it be, that any seal hunter decides arbitrarily whether an animal is viable or not?

Indeed the harbor seal stations on the islands are allowed to take care of motherless or injured seals that are found but they have to be handed over to the seal hunters within 24 hours even if the veterinarian’s assessment is against transportation - ignoring in what kind of condition the seal is.

This means: either to kill the seal - or to transport it to the only legitimate seal station in Friedrichskoog. (This is against animal welfare, because there is no reason for it and the animals have to suffer unnecessarily)

The only legitimate seal station is operated by .....?!
THE „LANDESJÄGERSCHAFT“!

This is a scandal beyond compare, right in the middle of Germany, legitimated by you!

It is a vicious circle of despotism that cannot be broken from the outside. 

PLEASE BREAK THE CIRCLE, DR. HABECK!

What happens if capacity in Friedrichskoog is exhausted?
There is evidence that in these cases there is an increasing number of killing.

SEVERAL HUNDREDS OF SEALS ARE SHOT YEAR BY YEAR!

Quarantine given by the competent and specified rescue station members and therefore as well welfare and beginning recovery of the animals is knowingly interrupted, to take the seals to Friedrichskoog.

This is obviously done - because it is against all logic - only to secure the MONOPOLY OF THE “LANDJÄGERSCHAFT” IN SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN!

Allow the rescue stations to care for the seals until their recovery and release!

In Friedrichskoog, one seems to have to cover up a lot as my own visits in official function or as a private person with my veterinarian background have shown - transparency looks different!

We have been researching these processes for well over a year and the results show that too often injured, sick, or motherless seals are being killed by the seal hunter, although veterinarians have made good health forecasts for these animals.

Dr. Habeck - be assured of our support if you take advantage of the unique opportunity now before the election of your party and put a serious and highly visible sign to prove your commitment to animal protection.

DISSOLVE THE MONOPOLY OF “THE LANDJÄGERSCHAFT” IN SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN THAT EXPLOITS THE SEALS!
