Friends of Snowden,
Can you spare an hour on Monday night for Snowden?
On Monday night at their 6:30pm meeting, Campbell River City Council will review a recommendation from their staff to renew their request to the Minister of Forests to put a moratorium in place on roadbuilding and logging in Snowden. Ideally the moratorium would stay in place until a long-term recreation and forest development and management plan that increases the level of protection for Snowden's trails is completed.
BC Timber Sales has created the Snowden Advisory Group and will begin seeking input about Snowden's recreational values next week. Concern remains with regards to their desire to log the five blocks they have proposed that are on and adjacent to the highest use trails in Snowden.
A link to the report from City staff to Council may be found in the Council agenda for Monday night, which is at this URL/link: https://campbellriver.civicweb.net/Portal/MeetingInformation.aspx?Id=1995
Your presence for a portion of the Council meeting on Monday night will help reinforce Council's determination to lobby the Minister to put a higher level of protection in place for Snowden's trails and to reduce the Annual Allowable Cut in Snowden so that BC Timber Sales is not under as much pressure to cut down trees in that area.
Thank you for caring,
Garry
