Friends of Snowden: Thank you to all of you who attended the Council meeting last night. Your presence will strengthen Council's resolve as they begin the task of convincing Minister Doug Donaldson to halt logging in Snowden until a long-term (20 year) master plan is created. Council agreed to ask Minister Donaldson to hit the pause button until a master plan that considers all of the values in Snowden is created. They asked that the Ministry of Forests (FLNRORD) engage local First Nations and local recreation groups in the planning process. Council did not indicate whether they will seek the support of the Regional District in terms of their request to Minister Donaldson. It is hoped that they will, as Snowden is under the jurisdiction of the Regional District and their support will greatly boost the likelihood of a positive response from the Minister. Thank you for helping to convince City Council that Snowden is a valuable asset that deserves their attention and a proper, long-term plan. Our efforts will now shift to supporting Council's request to the Minister and to convincing the Minister that Council's request is absolutely the right thing to do. Thanks for making a difference!
