Pet urine contains high counts of nitrogen, a colorless and odorless gas that in small amounts is generally safe for grass.

Grass growth is dependent on this chemical but too much of it can have reverse effects and cause brownish yellow patches in otherwise green pastures. 

Purinate frequently, and normally in the same spots, making it difficult to grow grass in certain areas.
