Wisconsin GOP Joins Fight Against Mask Requirement, Downplays Threat of Covid-19 in State

As we expected, the leaders of the GOP-majority Wisconsin Legislature are jumping into the latest fight to overturn Gov. Tony Evers' common-sense mask requirement.

So, it's urgent that if you haven't signed the petition to support the the governor's Wisconsin mask requirement, please click here now and sign it!

This new Milwaukee Journal article explains that Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (both Republicans) are now intervening in a legal challenge of the requirement by a right-wing legal group funded by the conservative Bradley Foundation. As the story notes, they could easily overturn Evers' requirement with simple legislation. But they're afraid to, because it would put some of their members in electoral jeopardy next month. So instead, they are using taxpayer dollars to join the wrong side in the lawsuit against the requirement.

This total Republican disregard for the health of Wisconsinites, science and public health is the focus of another article, with a headline that sadly says it all: "Deaths, hospitalizations and infections are surging, but some GOP lawmakers tell constituents not to worry about COVID-19."

Please sign and share the petition supporting the state mask requirement! We need to let legislators, the courts and the general public know that *we* believe in science and support doing what health experts say -- which for now, is to require masks in public places.
