Threats to Wisconsin Mask Requirement Continue as Wisconsin Covid-19 Numbers Spike
As Wisconsin sees record numbers of new Covid-19 infections – among the highest in the country – and very high positivity rates, a conservative legal group funded by the right-wing Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation has asked a court to immediately block the enforcement of the state’s mask requirement.

Gov. Tony Evers issued public health emergency declarations including the mask requirement on July 30 and again on Sept. 22, extending the mask requirement until Nov. 21.
But the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL) last month sued Evers over the declaration and this week sought immediate court against to block the mask requirement. WILL receives support from the Bradley Foundation, which has also funded efforts this year to roll back stay-at-home safety measures.
What a horrible idea to be challenging Wisconsin's public health and safety efforts during Covid-19, and especially now, when:
- The Atlantic magazine is reporting that “Wisconsin is on the brink of a major outbreak” and that the “state’s coronavirus cases and hospitalizations are at an all-time high.”
- Wisconsin’s “outbreak balloons to one of the nation's worst,” the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
- The state’s positivity rate is at 22% (health exports say the rate should be 5% or less before reopening).
- Wisconsin even has more Covid patients in ICU than the country of Canada, as Urban Milwaukee reports.
