Supervisor Shea Effort Leads to Preservation of Bus Routes
MILWAUKEE – In the wake of a campaign by Supervisor Steven Shea to preserve bus routes serving South Shore communities, the Abele administration announced today that several routes previously slated for cuts will be continued. “I launched a petition drive to save Milwaukee County Transit System South Shore routes 48, 52, 55, and 80. Over a thousand Milwaukee County citizens signed the petition. The County Executive and his administration have heard the voice of the people and have restored these routes as well as others, said Shea.
"I want to thank the thousands of constituents who organized with me in support of these critical routes. With your support, workers, students, educators, seniors, and people with disabilities can use Milwaukee County public transit to access work, school, health care, shopping, and social opportunities that our beautiful county offers. I support a healthy and modern transit system in Milwaukee County that equitably promotes people's mobility,” concluded Shea.
The Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) had previously proposed eliminating several routes as part of its 2020 budget request.
Supervisor Shea launched a petition opposing the MCTS cuts to routes that provide service to and from the South Shore. More than 1100 residents signed the petition, which Supervisor Shea delivered personally to County Executive Abele.
