Some of you may be aware that Dundee council are proposing to close Mills Observatory. A real shame to lose this historic Art Deco building and the Thomas Cooke telescope within. The telescope has fallen into disrepair over the years and requires some major refurbishment. The dome is Papier Mache, really interesting and worth preservation.

Thursday 6/6/24 EDIT: Due to new information received today, it has been pointed out the telescope isn't in such poor condition as we were led to believe, apparently the telescope is still useable which is great news. But saving the facility still remains a priority.

This may be too little too late but I have set up a petition at change.org to get signatures and see if the astronomy community can put some leverage on the council to reconsider.
