Dear Members of the Massachusetts Recreational Trail Advisory Board,

On behalf of the residents of Millbury and the surrounding communities, we are writing to express our full support for the application to secure funding through the Massachusetts Trails Grant Program. This grant would be used to purchase essential equipment for the maintenance and repair of the Brierly Pond Conservation Area, as well as for the broader Millbury trail system which resides on 782 acres.

The Brierly Pond Conservation Area and Millbury’s 39 miles of trail network are vital resources for our community, providing opportunities for outdoor recreation, environmental education, and stewardship. They are widely used by residents for walking, hiking, birdwatching, biking, and connecting with nature. These trails are not only a source of pride for our town but also contribute to the health, well-being, and quality of life for people of all ages.

However, maintaining these trails to ensure they remain safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone is challenging. The purchase of equipment such as atv's, utv’s, maintenance tools, and repair materials will help address the wear and tear that comes with high usage and seasonal conditions. With proper equipment, our volunteers and town staff will be able to improve trail accessibility, prevent erosion, and ensure that the natural beauty of the Brierly Pond Conservation Area and surrounding trails is preserved for generations to come.

As a community, we are committed to maintaining these trails as a resource that promotes physical activity, enhances local wildlife habitats, and supports our town’s environmental goals. The proposed grant will significantly aid in keeping our trail system in excellent condition, fostering a sustainable and vibrant outdoor space for all who enjoy it.
