North Carolina lawmakers just Passed House Bill 13 (HB13), a mandate to drastically reduce the maximum class size for next year of all public elementary schools. Sounds great at first, but they didn't provide any funds for all the new teachers and classrooms it would require. That means many schools may be forced to cut Art, Music, PE, and teaching assistants next school year to make ends meet. Lower class size ratios could mean crowded school facilities (not enough classrooms) or even the cost of modular units, which some school campuses do not allow. North Carolina already has a shortage of teachers and now they will be forced to higher more teachers to fill these extra classrooms (could be a closet if there aren't enough classrooms. Or a partitioned space in the gym. NOT ideal learning environments!!) Our teachers and students will be greatly affected by this bill and we need everyone's support to let our senators know we want COMPLETE REPEAL of the 'K-3 Class Size Ratio' legislation!!
