Since you have been such a strong supporter of our efforts on behalf of Marcellus Williams, we thought you might be interested in another case involving the death penalty.

The State of Alabama is planning to execute Nathaniel Woods on Thursday, March 5, despite serious questions about his culpability and the reliability of his conviction and sentence. Mr. Woods is poor, could not afford counsel and was appointed an attorney who abandoned him in the middle of the appeal of his conviction and death sentence. His case has never been adequately reviewed by either state or federal courts. Mr. Woods was not the trigger-person in this case – he was only convicted of being an accomplice – so there are serious questions about his culpability.  The jury could not reach a unanimous verdict, yet Mr. Woods was sentenced to death, raising additional concerns about the constitutionality of the death penalty in this case. In 2017, Alison Brettschneider (25park) helped stay the execution of Marcellus Williams by using her social media platforms. She is now in Alabama organizing, posting updates, and calls to action on her Instagram to ensure Nate has the same happy ending. Please be sure to follow her instagram @25parkalison to mobilize to get the stay of execution and have Nate exonerated and a free man, FINALLY.
