On August 22, 2017 Marcellus Williams was scheduled for execution in Bonne Terre, Missouri. That day Governor Eric Greitens issued a stay of execution for Marcellus Williams. The stay was granted to allow a Board of Inquiry to further investigate Marcellus' case, including the results of recent DNA testing which showed that Williams’ DNA was not found on the murder weapon. On August 6, 2018 Governor Mike Parson gave the panel of five former judges the go ahead to proceed with the review of Williams.
The review panel will meet in Jefferson City, this Wednesday August 22, one year after the scheduled execution. The NAACP of Missouri and Missourians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty will hold a press conference on the steps of the Missouri Supreme Court (207 W High St, Jefferson City, MO 65101) at 10:30 am.
