Jane Roscoe responds to Petition.

Jane Roscoe has addressed the petition you all signed, here is the response: Further to the response from our Chairman Mike Leigh, Margaret Matheson (Deputy Chair) and I would like to address your concerns. Since August 2014, we have been working with all of the staff to help prepare LFS for its next 60 years. The School has a rich history but needs to be sustainable to continue to be a world class film school. The vision for the school has not altered. It continues to be a film centred institution along the conservatoire model; the school continues to support the development of individual, creative voices in a collaborative environment. Our strategy has enabled us to build a more solid foundation for LFS. We now have some sustainable growth in student numbers through new courses. We have a new location for the school with engaged investors. LFS films continue to be nominated at festivals and competitions, and are being sold around the globe. In short, we are on the right track. The next months are a great opportunity to progress our plans and continue to revitalise the School. Specifically; • Since August 2014, 19 staff members excluding Terry Hopkins have left the organisation for various reasons, whilst 15 new staff members have joined LFS. The majority of joiners were replacement roles with 2 roles funded externally, and 2 positions remaining to be advertised. • Margaret Matheson and Governors have met with students and staff. Further they have encouraged alumni to meet with myself to discuss the vision and strategy. To date, this opportunity has not been taken up by the alumni. We will continue to provide forums in which staff, students and alumni can raise concerns, and engage in healthy discussion. • At the AGM of 22 March 2016; it was noted that the position of Head of Studies will be advertised at an appropriate time, with the intention of this role being in place by the autumn term. • LFS has a disciplinary procedure. Any complaints are investigated and reviewed by the school and HR support services. Action has been, and will be, taken if complaints are upheld. As is the case in any creative or educational institution, there will be turnover in staff and students. It’s important to acknowledge the institutional history and long service of colleagues and alumni, but equally essential to provide space and support for fresh ideas and new perspectives. As we are at an exciting point in our history, let’s work together and ensure the future is successful for all at The London Film School. Signed Jane Roscoe Director
