'I lost. The nigger won.': AL GOP Mayor's racist remark after losing to Black candidate
The Issue
Midland City, Dale County, AL interim Mayor Patsy Capshaw Skipper was defeated in the Mayoral election on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 to African American Mayoral candidate Jo Ann Bennett Grimsley. Voters preferred a change in leadership casting 233 votes for Grimsley as opposed to 148 votes for Skipper. However, interim Mayor Skipper after being defeated, took to FB and responded to someone who asked her how the election went with, 'I lost. The nigger won.'
Racism, whether expressed in private or in public, as a comment, joke, or intentional, hurtful, and demeaning reference to another person has NO PLACE IN SOCIETY! Mayor-elect Jo Ann Bennett Grimsley, was elected by the people and became the first African American female to hold the position of Mayor in Midland City, AL. Grimsley has served the Dale County government for 27 years as the former Assistant City Clerk, the city's Water Clerk, and Dale County Court Clerk.
Mayor-elect Jo Ann Bennett Grimsley deserves the FULL support of the people in calling for the IMMEDIATE REMOVAL of interim Mayor Patsy Capshaw Skipper from the other town council members who can conduct an emergency council meeting to address Mayor Skipper's racist publicly made comments and vote her out of her interim Mayoral position, as well as, not allowing Mayor Skipper to return to her previous position of Council President. The fact that Mayor Skipper was defeated in the recent election should provide additional incentive for the town Council members to take the most appropriate and reasonable actions to prevent any further actions and to protect the interests of the city and it's citizens.
Stand on behalf of and in support of Mayor-elect Jo Ann Bennett Grimsley by signing this petition calling for the IMMEDIATE REMOVAL from office of interim Mayor Patsy Capshaw Skipper by the the standing Midland City Council members. Racism must not be tolerated!!!
