I am a white gay man who was threatened with being murdered at Middlesex University for who I am. Despite being charged by the Crown Prosecution Service of England, my attacker remains on campus with only a written warning given by my university. The Metropolitan Police also failed to act on harassment charges and they have since apologised in writing for "a failure in the policing response."

As a gay man I do not walk around parading my sexuality. This is my private life; I was made to feel belittled and ashamed to be who I am, not just by my harasser, but also Middlesex University. This university needs reform.

Who is affected?

This is not just about me — it’s about whether Middlesex University will continue endangering students. We demand immediate action before someone is killed.

The Facts:

1. Racist & Homophobic Death Threat (Oct 2023-March 2024)
   A Middlesex University London student studying the same course threatened to kill me on campus just for being gay.
   This student said: “Morgan, you’re white — why are you not racist?”
   
   
2. Middlesex issued only a written warning, despite CPS charges.
   
   
3. The Met Police admitted the Police's “service not acceptable” after failing to prosecute the Middlesex University London student within legal time limits.

Year-Long Institutional Failure

1. Promised risk assessments were never completed (April 2024 to April 2025).
   
   
2. Faculty acknowledged I was forced to study abroad for safety: "we cannot act until the end of the police investigation, all we can offer you is a panic alarm but you will still be in the same classes as him."
   
   
3. My uni programme leader warned that complaining would “make things uncomfortable”—proving staff lack faith in the system.

Physical Assault at Middlesex University Dubai

A student punched me in the head, hit me with my own laptop to the head in front of other Middlesex Dubai students, and said: “I hope your plane crashes and you die.”

Middlesex University Dubai students (witness) refused to testify to the university, showing a culture of impunity.

Our Demands:

1. Resignation of Vice Chancellor Shân Wareing
   Her leadership has repeatedly ignored and enabled violence and hate crimes. She must do the right thing and resign immediately.
   
   
2. Immediate Expulsion of My Harasser
   A student who threatened to kill me, on campus, simply for being gay, and said "You whites...Morgan you're white why are you not racist" should not be allowed near any campus. He said: "My attitudes will never change." He poses a danger to the wider London community.
   
   
3. We demand a written response from the university
   Why did the Middlesex University London student get away with just a warning for threatening to kill another student? For racially-motivated hate speech? Why has the student not been expelled from the campus? The university has so far ignored me when I have asked this twice in writing.

This Is About Justice, Not Beliefs

We all have different views, but no one should be threatened, assaulted or abandoned by their university.

Islam, like all faiths, teaches justice and protection from harm (Quran 4:135). The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "A Muslim is one from whose tongue and hand people are safe." (Bukhari)

To my Muslim peers: You don’t have to agree with my identity to stand against an individual who has admitted racism and homophobic violence, or Middlesex University's institutional betrayal.

Middlesex University Dubai Director labelled me a "problem student" to my face for simply reporting the Middlesex London student threatening to kill me. Middlesex University Dubai apologised verbally for that director swearing at me as well - saying "thats not the experience we want students to have" - but the director resigned a few days after I made my complaint, the timing appears too coincidental. In late April 2024, Middlesex University said they would provide a risk assessment. On 30th January 2025, the university said they would provide a risk assessment. On 24th April 2025 the university confirmed the risk assessment has still NOT been completed.

Middlesex University London's study abroad exchanges team confirmed:

 

 

 

My university approved for me to study for a 2nd year abroad outside of the UK due to safety reasons:

 

However due to post-Brexit funding rules by the UK Government, this has been blocked by the Department for Education (Student Finance England say Department for Education set the funding rules for tuition fee loans). They said if I study abroad self-funded for a 2nd year then they would demand approx £40,000 to be repaid immediately. This has left me with no choice but to return to the Middlesex University London UK campus.

 

 

With that said, ultimately, this could be avoided if Middlesex University London were serious about hate speech and violence on the universitys campus. To clarify, all discipline rules guidance and strategic decisions are made at the main Hendon (London UK) campus. Even lesson PowerPoints are made at the London campus.
