MDXSU 'No Detriment' Policy: the detail

The policy introduced this time last year proved that the University was committed to aiding final year students through the uncertain times at the beginning of the pandemic. The most supportive measure introduced, was the updated classification marking scheme, detailed below:

In regards to the details, the University has agreed to an amended degree classification for those due to finish their undergraduate studies this year. This amended classification will be determined by taking into account your best combined 120 credits achieved across years two and three (i.e. levels 5 and 6 of your studies) as long as you have passed 240 credits across both years. Following this decision last year, students entering their final year in 2020/21 had hoped for a similar decision to be made for them. We continuously asked whether we would receive a no-detriment policy and how the University would guarantee our grade classifications at the end of the term, following three national lockdowns and the inaccessible nature of many resources usually available on campus. The decision was pushed back multiple times and during this period it felt as if we were being given false hope, as the phrase 'no detriment floated around.

Maybe we were naive in believing that the University would retain the Covid Best 120 Credits algorithm. Maybe we just gave it little thought because we had to worry about other things, like surviving last year financially, working from home with younger siblings and parents alongside us, or being physically and/or mentally impacted by the pandemic. 

Either way, we believe it is unfair that last year students got a blanket algorithm change and this year the policy won't benefit many students at all.
