My personal experience

I have been lucky enough to have retained my job throughout the pandemic,  and I have a safe roof over my head not far out of London. 

Despite my good fortune over the last year or so, I still deeply feel that my third year experience has been negatively affected by COVID-19. Last year, I borrowed about 20 books from the library, probably clocking around 20 hours studying there a week, during term time. This year I haven’t borrowed a single physical book from the library, and I haven’t even been to campus since August (even then, that was to work for the admissions team).

Our lecturers have remarked how online teaching and face-to-face teaching are not the same, and whilst I respect and applaud each and every single one of them, they are right and it has impacted our education. I spend on average, 8 hours a day staring at a laptop screen, and paying £9250 to do so.  

Whilst I acknowledge the discussions that the University board and MDXSU have had regarding this issue, the announcement made at the beginning of March has enraged me and many other students.

I often record advertising and promotional content for the university and feel that I cannot continue until Middlesex alters the ‘safety net’ to guarantee students grade classifications that are a true reflection of their experience.
