Deaf children have unique communication and language needs. Teachers certified in Deaf Education that are fluent in American Sign Language are the only professionals that understand the unique needs of our children. Our children need to be educated together at one school to help them develop and grow while practicing their native language, American Sign Language with their peers and adults that can communicate directly with them. Placing our children back in their home school district where they are the only deaf child in the mainstream is NOT the least restrictive environment. It is the exact opposite! They will not have equal access to education as their hearing peers. This is a violation of their civil rights and the Individuals with Disabilities Act.
