On Friday, 24 October 2025, the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court became a scene of quiet anguish and restrained tension as four young men were granted bail in connection with the death of 16-year-old scholar Micah Klaasen. Each was released on R2,500 bail.

The ruling, delivered by Magistrate, followed careful consideration of the investigating officer’s affidavit. Tsiki noted that, at this stage, the State’s case appeared not to meet the threshold of strength required to oppose bail. “It is my prima facie view that the evidence currently before the court does not establish a strong case against the accused,” he stated. “It is in the interest of justice that all four applicants be released on bail.”

The decision was met with visible emotion from both families some wept quietly, others sat in stunned silence. The atmosphere was heavy, marked by the weight of loss and the complexity of the legal process still unfolding.

The matter has been postponed to 26 January 2026 for further investigation. While the courtroom has emptied, the questions remain echoing through a community still coming to terms with the tragedy and searching for clarity in the days ahead.
