Keep WESTCHESTER UNINCORPORATED!

The Issue

The residents of Westchester are against the incorporation of their community and wish to remain unincorporated.

Incorporation will mean that residents will pay higher property taxes for the new municipality, in addition to paying higher fees for police, fire, garbage collection, etc. It will mean another level of bureaucracy, lots of rules and all sorts of fees, permits, and licenses for individuals and businesses. It will mean intensive enforcement of fines, traffic tickets, assessments, etc., that in unincorporated Dade we do not have, with no benefits or increased services. Incorporation would also mean that the new city will create its own building and zoning department and other entities/departments, but residents would still have to pay for certain government services and permits. Residents will be paying county and new city taxes, and the money to pay for these politicians, police and new city employees’ salaries, pensions and benefits, will come from the Westchester residents.

If Westchester generates more tax dollars than they spend, maybe that means that residents are being overtaxed and they should be given a tax break. We should be putting more of our tax money back in our pockets, not giving our money away to other communities. Westchester is not going to be “absorbed” as we would need to vote on it anyways in the end. The residents of Westchester are the ones that need to make the decision, it's not up to the commissioners to decide!

Incorporating Westchester as a city would be a disaster for our personal finances. For decades Westchester has been an unincorporated area and we are doing well. Let's keep it that way and once again say NO to the incorporation!
