Apologies for the quick succession of updates, however given the exciting update we have received we thought it worth emailing again!
Firstly, Thank you again to everyone who has signed and shared the Revive Mitcham Eastfields petition. We’ve now reached over 1,099 signatures, with more than 15,000 views, showing just how strongly residents feel about the future of our area.
I wanted to share an important update on progress.
Merton Council has now formally acknowledged the petition and confirmed it has been shared internally with the relevant service areas under their official petitions process. This means responses are now being prepared and coordinated across departments.
In addition:
- Dame Siobhain McDonagh MP has written on residents’ behalf to raise concerns around transport and rail services.
- Leonie Cooper AM is aware of the petition and the issues being raised.
- The Leader of Merton Council has written directly to senior officers regarding:
- Investment in Mitcham town centre
Support and maintenance of Mitcham Common - Wider parks and green spaces
- Transport planning and rail services
- Replies have been received from TfL and Thameslink. While these raise challenges, residents have made clear that these responses are not the end of the conversation, particularly given ongoing housing growth and future demand.
We’ve also formally expanded the petition’s mandate to include concerns raised by elderly and disabled residents, particularly around:
- uneven pavements
- reduced parking and accessibility
space for wheelchairs, mobility aids and carers - and feeling increasingly isolated by current infrastructure
This petition is no longer just about being heard — it’s now part of an active dialogue with decision-makers. But continued public support still matters. Numbers matter. Visibility matters.
Please keep sharing and signing if you can:
