Mental health

The Issue

On June 6, 2016, I faced an unimaginable loss when my fiancé, the father of my children, succumbed to suicide. This tragedy has reinforced my commitment to raising awareness about mental health, not just as a personal mission but for everyone who has ever felt the weight of mental illness.

Living with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and anxiety myself, I know firsthand how mental health issues can profoundly impact our lives. Too often, people are reluctant to seek help due to the stigma surrounding mental health, fearing judgment or being perceived as weak. This prevailing mindset can trap individuals in silence, preventing them from getting the support they need, and it must change.

Seeking help is, in fact, a sign of strength, resilience, and self-awareness. It's imperative to create a society that recognizes this truth. It's time to shift the narrative and foster an environment where mental health is widely accepted and openly discussed, allowing individuals to feel empowered to seek the help they rightfully deserve.

Statistics from the World Health Organization highlight that one in four people globally struggles with a mental health disorder at some point in their lives. Depression alone affects over 264 million people worldwide. Yet, stigma and misinformation remain persistent barriers.

A realistic and achievable goal is to increase public education on mental health, promote supportive environments at workplaces, schools, and communities, and implement policies designed to protect and support those seeking mental help. Initiatives such as mental health workshops, accessible therapy sessions, and the integration of mental health education in schools can pave the way for a global change.

Join me in advocating for a world where mental health is respected and treated with the same seriousness as physical health. Together, we can reduce stigma and transform the perception of mental health from a subject shrouded in misunderstanding to one embraced with compassion.

Please sign this petition to call on leaders, educators, and policymakers across the globe to promote mental health education and reduce stigma. Our voices can create the change we need.
