Halima Layeni started this petition to Elizabeth Warren (Senator ) and

In 2011, the U.S. Department of Justice reported that males constituted 98.9% of rape perpetrators and 77.8% of those charged for aggravated assault were males. In 2008, Wikipedia reported that globally, death by suicide occurred about 1.8 times more often among males.

The popular notion that boys and men should never show signs of weakness has encouraged the culture of power, privilege and entitlement. There is also the prevalence of emotional and psychological instability among men associated with this notion which eventually results in toxic masculinity.

Women and girls continue to remain at the receiving end of violence perpetrated by men. We have watched as they continue to be objectectified, silenced, trampled upon, doubted, ridiculed, questioned and ignored. Many have lost their lives, voice, sanity, health and dignity. It took me 128 uncovered cases of child sexual abuse to realise I'd been fighting the wrong fight all along.

We can achieve a peaceful world. We can achieve a just world- but not without the help of men. It takes just one man and then another, and another and another. Lasting change can only be effected when men begin to lend their voice and get involved; when they begin to redefine masculinity, challenge the values that has been passed down to them and change the narratives on what it truly means to be a man; when they recognize that to be a man is to be human; to feel, to be vulnerable, sensitive and emotional.

By signing this petition, you are pledging to stand with and for women and girls, you are righting the wrongs of all men, you are acknowledging that men traumatize women through wrongful normalized actions, knowingly and unknowingly and you are taking a stand to change that. You are pledging to put an end to rape culture, fear and all forms of violence against women and girls.

You are declaring a yes to peace, love, unity, respect, compassion, tolerance, support, decency, consent, safety, liberty, equality, inclusion, empowerment, education, healthcare, fairness, justice and progress for all women and girls.

If you won't do it for anyone, do it for your sister or your daughter or your mother or your wife or your niece or that amazing lady at your work place because it could be any of them. Do it for every woman in your life, because by doing it for one, you do it for all.

We need men for a peaceful and just world and you can help us all achieve that regardless of your age, race, religion, nationality or social class. Take a stand today and do the right thing.

The future is female and male.

Thank you for lending your voice.
