He was the sponsor of Bill C-246, helped to start an animal welfare caucus on the Hill, and has sponsored numerous petitions to improve animal welfare, including one calling on the government to require video surveillance in slaughterhouses and factory farms. His work in Ottawa has been endorsed by every major animal welfare organization. In an article in NOW Magazine (in which he was voted Best MP in Toronto!), Nate wrote: Animal advocacy groups must continue to become more professional in their lobbying efforts. Meat and hunting lobbyists are well-funded, well-organized, and roll out the red carpet for MP receptions. Animal advocacy in Ottawa, by comparison, is in its infancy. The playing field needs to be levelled, and donations ultimately matter more than signatures on a petition. As 2017 comes to an end, it's important that we support animal advocacy groups with donations. But it's also important that we support our animal-friendly MPs.
