Thank you for supporting my petition - A Manifesto for out time. I have been in correspondence with my local MP to challenge him about the actions the current government is taking. After receiving a standard response, I replied as below. Why not challenge your own MP as well?
Mike thank you for your response, however my follow-up would be there is no account taken of imported commodities and their carbon footprint. Hence the net zero target by 2050 is not at all accurate in this regard and in fact the current carbon ‘savings’ are likewise incorrect. We are deluding ourselves unless we provide comprehensive and accurate figures that take all parts of the equation into account.
Secondly surely there should be annualised budgets set for carbon emissions so that a clear pathway is set and the policies adjusted to keep us on track even for the 2050 net zero target.
There is an undeniable risk of runaway climate change and we must be doing much more to address in a meaningful and believable fashion. I really believe we are still playing at the edges, not focussed on the real issues and the real changes that are needed by all of us to face up to the challenge of climate change.
