MELL NEEDS YOUR HELP!!

The Issue

We have a lack of water at Mountain Empire Little League Fields!

Our residents and families of San Diego County’s Mountain Empire communities are petitioning the San Diego County Board of Supervisors to allocate discretionary funds to cover the cost of drilling a new well at the Mountain Empire Little League fields, it is home to little league players living in Campo, Potrero, Tecate, Descanso, Guatay, Mt. Laguna, Pine Valley, Boulevard, and Jacumba.

Mountain Empire Little League provides over 200 children with the experience of youth baseball each year. The Mountain Empire Little League fields are the only location able to host a little league within 660 square miles of San Diego County’s rural communities, providing the four fields needed for T-ball, CAPS, Minor, and Major levels as required by the national Little League operating policies.

Mountain Empire Little League fields are also used by air ambulance helicopters (Life Flight) in emergency medical situations.

Our Current Situation

Mountain Empire Little League does not have sufficient water resources to properly maintain the four baseball fields.

The current 10,000 gallon water tank fills to approximately 60%, meaning that the current well is not producing enough water.

Mountain Empire Little League provides both a Spring season and a Fall season, and also hosts community movie nights in the summer months. The current well does not produce enough water to consistently maintain the fields.

By comparison, other little league programs in East County are able to maintain high quality and green fields. Mountain Empire Little League players and families feel embarrassed about the condition of the fields when other little league programs come to play.

Mountain Empire Little League has over $3,000 in grass seed and fertilizer to re-seed the fields, but is unable to do so because inability to saturate the fields due to inadequate water supply from the current well.

Our Request to Supervisor Joel Anderson

Allocate $150,000 in County discretionary funds to cover the cost of drilling a new well with greater water production and ability to fill the 10,000 gallon tank.

We want to ensure that the Mountain Empire Little League fields provide local children with a high-quality and safe facility for participation in youth sports.

Provide the 8,000+ Mountain Empire constituents with a community resource that residents and families can take pride in and enjoy for generations.
