MELBOURNE DOESN'T NEED MEGA PRECINCTS OF ENTERTAINMENT!
Oppose the Merivale Entertainment Hub Development.
I am a passionate resident of Melbourne, swept up in the unique, eclectic vibrancy of our entertainment scene. It's an environment vulnerable to rapid changes that may not have our best interests at heart. One such change is the proposed development of an 8-story entertainment hub by Merivale that threatens the very fabric of Melbourne.
Justin Hemmes, the man behind Merivale, is planning on bulldozing the car park (First Car Park - Bourke Street) leaving numerous small enterprises in jeopardy.
Construction will disrupt day-to-day business operations, while its completion could edge out small vendors who rely on the car park, damaging the very fabric that makes Melbourne what it is. We are proud of our differences from other cities. Melbourne doesn't need another clone of Sydney's IVY; our city needs its unique rhythm to continue to thrive and evolve authentically.
WE DON'T WANT ANOTHER GEORGE STREET FAILURE LIKE SYDNEY
Merivale have enough locations already, DON'T DESTROY MELBOURNES CHARM!
We need to protect the small laneways. If we start to introduce massive entertainment precincts its all over for Melbourne CBD, It will be only a matter of time until Merivale snatches up another corner of the CBD and encourages other big developers to build unwanted entertainment precincts.
Merivale is a prominent hospitality group in Sydney, operating over 90 venues
This is not just about resisting change; it's about protecting what makes Melbourne, Melbourne. We all don't use public transport and let's face it, if you go to that car park at any time during the day it's full. Where are all those cars going to park?
Let's stand together against the Merivale project and champion the CBD Car Park that represents more than just convenient parking – it's a place to park conveniently near small boutique shops and restaurants..

- Renovate the car park and build space on ground level for small shops that compliment the surrounding area.
- Use the car park rooftop as a public eco friendly space with solar panels and plants.
- Build a unique laneway style precinct that compliments the area.
