Stop huge winery building inside Green Belt and North Downs AONB

The Issue

Plans for a new winery with production and bottling facilities, a visitor centre, a restaurant, a cafe and a car park have been made at Cuxton in the rural fringe of Medway. The building, to be placed in Bush Valley, a lovely secluded dry chalk coombe in the North Downs, is truly enormous - so large that it will take two years to build.

This building will ruin the village of Cuxton and the hamlets of Upper and Lower Bush. A small main street and narrow rural lane already struggle with traffic and totally lack the infrastructure to cope with the volume of commercial and visitor traffic that would result from such a large and badly-sited development.

Furthermore, if this building is permitted - inside the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, inside the Green Belt, right next to ancient woodland with SSSI status , and hard against Upper Bush Conservation Area with its stunning Listed Buildings - it will set a dangerous precedent for other such intrusions and large speculative developments here and elsewhere.

Please honour this protected place, help our natural environment and oppose this development (Medway planning application MC/21/2328).
