In 1988 Amtrak ended its rail operations out of Michigan Central Station and moved operations to a new station in New Center. Now, MDOT is preparing to issue a Request For Proposals to spend millions on a new transit hub on the surface parking lot directly south of the current station (bounded by Cass, Amsterdam, and Woodward). Considering Ford's recent plans for revitalizing Michigan Central, this petition seeks to encourage the leaders involved to work together to create a truly unique hub for multi-modal transit while using existing infrastructure instead of wastefully spending millions on a brand new facility. Please, consider moving passenger rail operations back to Michigan Central Station!
