Philippians 

(Chapter 2 Verses 1-18)

Imitating Christ’s Humility

2:1 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,

2:2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.

2:3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

2:4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. 

Ro. 12:10; 1Cor. 10:24 

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves; Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others. 

Phil. 2:4, 21 

Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others, For everyone looks out for his own interest, not those of Jesus Christ.

2:5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

2:6 Who, being in very naturea God, 

John 1:1 

In the beginning as the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 

2:7 but made himself nothing, taking the very natureb of a servant, 

Matt. 20:28 

just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.’’

Being made in human likeness. 

2:8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death–

Matt. 26:39

Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, ‘’’My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.’’

Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, 

1Sam. 15:22 

But Samuel replied: ‘’Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. but my ears you have piercedb,c 

Ex. 21:6 

then his master must take him before judges.b He shall take him to the door or the doorpost and pierce his ear with an awl. Then he will be his servant for life. 

Ezek. 22:8; Deut. 15:16 

You have despised my holy things and desecrated my Sabbaths. But if your servant says to you, ‘’I do not want to leave you,’’ because he loves you and your family and is well off with you, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require. Then, I said, ‘’’Here I am, I have come—it is written about me in the scroll.d 

Job 19:23 

‘’Oh, that my words were recorded, that they were written on a scroll, 

Ex. 17:14 

Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘’Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.’’ I desire to do your will,, O my God;
